Stay Warm This Winter! – All Star Chevrolet North

As the temperatures get cooler so does your vehicle! All Star Chevrolet North wants to keep you and your vehicle safe and warm on the road. In order to ensure a warm vehicle during the colder days, check your vehicle’s radiator. A radiator is like a thermos. It helps the engine stay at a proper temperature, no matter what the temperature is outside. Your vehicles coolant or antifreeze deserves special attention in the colder weather.

The coolant or antifreeze is tremendously important to your vehicle as it keeps the engine from freezing. You want to prevent rust and corrosion at all cost. The ultimate goal for antifreeze is to prevent fluid from freezing in your radiator. It is important to flush your radiator and fill it with new antifreeze fluid.

Consult your vehicle’s owner’s manual for information on the correct mixture of water and antifreeze needed for your vehicle’s engine. If your vehicle’s antifreeze levels are not properly filled, your vehicle will not start and you could potentially damage your engine further, by being unaware of these facts. Pick up an antifreeze level tester at an auto parts store near you and make sure the fluid is filled to the maximum line. Or, if you do not feel comfortable performing this task yourself, schedule a service appointment at All Star Chevrolet North today! We would be happy to assist you!

Back to School for Your Car Too!

Back to School Road Sign with Dramatic Clouds and Sky.

Although it may still feel like summer time outside, back-to-school time is right around the corner. August is always a busy month for parents and kids. Parents are trying to squeeze in last minute vacations and the kids are wanting to play with their friends all day! One item that is not usually on the top of the to-do list when heading back to school is your vehicle maintenance. Whether you’re attending high school, heading back to college or you’re the chauffeur for your family, your vehicle is going to need a little TLC before heading back to school and work!

Check the Tires

Check the tires for uneven tread wear, nails or other potential hazards. One easy way to check tread depth is inserting a penny into a groove—if any part of Abe Lincoln’s head is obscured, you have enough tread. Check the pressure on each tire with a gauge when they’re cold (not driven). Follow the vehicle manufacturer’s suggested pressure, which is located on most vehicles on a sticker inside the driver’s door, center console, glove compartment lid or in the owner’s manual. Also, make sure the spare tire is inflated and a jack, lug wrench and jumper cables are in the trunk!

Up-To-Date

Before your college-bound kiddo hits the road, make sure their vehicle has an up-to-date inspection sticker, car registration, driver’s license and an insurance card. At most colleges, these are the things your child will need in order to purchase a parking tag to be able to park on campus. This may be tedious to check and update, but these are vital things in order to send your child on the road to college!

Local Resources

Maintenance issues still can occur despite your preventive maintenance efforts, so it’s wise to identify resources near your college campus. If your driver is college-bound, the university itself can be helpful, too, so touch base with its parking services or safety department. They may have suggestions for local car services and can offer helpful services themselves.

Make sure to schedule a service appointment with one of our certified technicians that will be able to service your vehicle and get you back on the road! Doing routine maintenance on your vehicle will not only ensure your safety on the road, but it will also prolong the life of your vehicle!
