Back to School for Your Car Too!

Back to School Road Sign with Dramatic Clouds and Sky.

Although it may still feel like summer time outside, back-to-school time is right around the corner. August is always a busy month for parents and kids. Parents are trying to squeeze in last minute vacations and the kids are wanting to play with their friends all day! One item that is not usually on the top of the to-do list when heading back to school is your vehicle maintenance. Whether you’re attending high school, heading back to college or you’re the chauffeur for your family, your vehicle is going to need a little TLC before heading back to school and work!

Check the Tires

Check the tires for uneven tread wear, nails or other potential hazards. One easy way to check tread depth is inserting a penny into a groove—if any part of Abe Lincoln’s head is obscured, you have enough tread. Check the pressure on each tire with a gauge when they’re cold (not driven). Follow the vehicle manufacturer’s suggested pressure, which is located on most vehicles on a sticker inside the driver’s door, center console, glove compartment lid or in the owner’s manual. Also, make sure the spare tire is inflated and a jack, lug wrench and jumper cables are in the trunk!

Up-To-Date

Before your college-bound kiddo hits the road, make sure their vehicle has an up-to-date inspection sticker, car registration, driver’s license and an insurance card. At most colleges, these are the things your child will need in order to purchase a parking tag to be able to park on campus. This may be tedious to check and update, but these are vital things in order to send your child on the road to college!

Local Resources

Maintenance issues still can occur despite your preventive maintenance efforts, so it’s wise to identify resources near your college campus. If your driver is college-bound, the university itself can be helpful, too, so touch base with its parking services or safety department. They may have suggestions for local car services and can offer helpful services themselves.

Make sure to schedule a service appointment with one of our certified technicians that will be able to service your vehicle and get you back on the road! Doing routine maintenance on your vehicle will not only ensure your safety on the road, but it will also prolong the life of your vehicle!

5 Vehicle Tips for a Safe Summer Road Trip

10

Whether you are heading to the beach with friends, taking a road trip with your family, or commuting back and forth to work, it is important that your vehicle is ready and properly prepared for the summer months. That is why All Star Chevrolet North has compiled a list of vehicle tips to ensure that you will stay safe this summer!

Get your Vehicle Serviced

Before you get on the road, get your vehicle serviced. Regular maintenance such as oil changes, battery checked and tire rotations will go a long way towards preventing breakdowns. If your vehicle has not been serviced according to Chevrolet’s recommendations, schedule a maintenance checkup with us right away! You can schedule a service appointment by clicking here!

Emergency Kit Prepared

Also remember to pack and emergency roadside kit. Even a well-maintained vehicle can break down or get a flat tire, so it is important to be prepared for any situation thrown your way. Click here to view some awesome emergency roadside kits!

Clean it Out!

Make sure your vehicle is cleaned out. The summer heat can melt or explode items in your vehicle that were once fine – until your car’s interior reaches triple digits! Disposable lighters, batteries, and aerosol cans can be a hazard in a hot car. You should also watch out for messy items like chocolate and crayons.

Double Check those Babies

Keep kids and pets safe in the car at all times. Make sure your children are properly secured in their car seats and booster seats. Also make sure they remain seated and buckled in when the vehicle is in motion. If you are traveling with a pet, make sure the animal is properly secured in a harness or dog seat belt. Here are some different options for a dog seat belt if you are traveling with a larger dog. Pets are part of the family, so make sure they are properly secured also!

Avoid the Heat and Sun

Manage glare and heat. Keep sunglasses handy and use a sun shield beneath your windshield when parked to keep your car’s interior heat down. Also, you should never leave a child or a pet unattended in a vehicle. The summer sun can also dehydrate you during long roads trips so always travel with plenty of water!

These are some great tips to remember if you are about to take a long road trip, or just for your daily commutes to work and doing errands! Summer time is a great chance to spend some much needed time with family and friends, but always remember these tips to stay safe this summer and you will be ready for any adventure thrown your way!
